After learning and teaching about environmental protections and sustainability topics for over a decade, Sarah Shores was inspired to infuse these philosophies into her art making process. She founded Bean and Bear Studio in 2022 (namesaked after her children’s nicknames) with the intention to provide closed-loop, ethical jewelry to consumers in an accessible and thoughtful way. All pieces are handmade by the artist in her eco-studio with certified recycled metals and traditional jewelry making techniques, featuring ethically sourced stones and found natural materials meant to last generations.

To strengthen her positive environmental impact, Bean and Bear Studio joined 1% for the Planet in 2023, committing a portion of all sales to The Potomac Conservancy and other local conservation groups annually through the river-inspired Potomac Collection. To date, over $3,500 has been donated to these organizations in support of their critical work for our communities.
