SO MANY FILMS, SO LITTLE TIME!

A Film Festival may seem a bit overwhelming for some as there are so many options. In fact, the great variety is one of the benefits of a Film Festival.  Festivals range in size and scale from one-day events, to multiple weeks. The World Famous Sundance Film Festival has over 46,000 attendees with a selection of from 115-125 feature films, 60-80 short films, 10-15 episodic projects, and 20-30 New Frontier performance and exhibition projects.  Other Festivals typically show anywhere from 10 to 150 films on average.  More than anyone could watch, no matter the interest.

At the Columbia Film Festival we are proud and excited to bring you over 60 films and events involving talented filmmakers, actors, crew and all that goes into producing every film you will ever see. Because we can go online, we have spread the films out across nine (9) days from June 17 through June 26th, including a very special parnership with the Horizon Foundation Mental Health Film Festival.

Film Festival are typically presented in multiple theatres to live audiences.  As we all cope with Covid-19 and social distancing, we at the Columbia Festival of the Arts and Columbia Film Festival are most grateful that we can bring all our films online in a Virtual platform for all to enjoy.   For many of you this may be a very new experience and we welcome you!

WHY SUCH A SHORT VIEWING WINDOW?

We have done our best to offer multiple viewing times each day, however due to copyright and distribution  restrictions for filmmakers, we are lucky we can go Virtual at all to keep these films available for our community.

Our filmmakers originally submitted their films to be shown in theaters.  We had to ask each and every filmmaker for special permisson to go Virtual.  It has been a very intricate and busy task to take everything online. We deeply appreciate the limited time we are allowed to screen these films online.

BROWSE BY TYPE OF FILM

Everyone has different tastes. Even our 12 Film Festival Judges had different scores and comments for many films. What one person loves, may not appeal to another. We suggest you browse our FILMS PORTFOLIO Menu option to select by category which films may be of primary interest. We offer Feature Films, Documentary Films, Student Films, local DelMarVa films, Animated films, International films and a selection of Workshops and a Screenplay reading. Each day of the Film Festival has a theme, or collection of films. For Example, on one day we offer all Student Films, on another all Short Films. Some days will have just Feature length movies, another just Documentaries. Choose what appeals to you.

SOME FILMS FREE, SOME FOR PURCHASE

To keep it simple, there are no Per Film tickets. We have several FREE events and films, registration required. Guests can choose between reasonably priced DAY PASSES or we also have a cost saving ALL FESTIVAL PASS which gives unlimited access to all of the films and automatically registers you for the FREE events as well included in our schedule.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

Are movies suitable for all ages?

Generally, films in the Columbia Film Festival are primarily for 18+ and not for young children. There is a large variety of content. Some films have strong language, powerful scenes, or deal with potentially graphic subjects.  As new films, these movies are not rated, though we did have some Columbia Festival of the Arts volunteers provide their comments regarding content, which is available with the film descriptions on the website to help you decide.

Can I buy tickets just for the films I want to see, even if they are across several days?

You can purchase INDIVIDUAL DAY PASSES for any given DAY/DAYS. If you want to watch films on several days you can purchase several DAY PASSES.  IT WILL BE MORE ECONOMICAL after 2-3 Days to just buy an ALL FESTIVAL PASS, for easy access to EVERYTHING, including automatic registration for all the FREE events as well.  It’s the best and most simple option.

Can I watch at any time? Are all films shown at set times and are they shown in order?

Typically, there are TWO (2) screening times per day for each film so you can choose EITHER a Matinee/Day time or an Evening time and still watch everything on that day.

Can I watch more than one film at the same time?

As with any television program or movie, you can watch only ONE film at a time, unless you have more than one TV/Device or have a split screen. However, most films will play more than once so you can see both films at different times on the same day. You can alternately switch from one film to another playing at the same time if you change your mind.
