Data Analyst — Volunteer

Job Summary

Columbia Festival of the Arts (CFA) currently manages a volunteer force of 150-200 volunteers who devote their time and talent to providing cultural events to the public in, around and visiting Columbia. To continue to be successful in recruiting, managing and retaining this amazing volunteer corps, CFA requires the assistance of a volunteer dedicated to managing, analyzing and reporting volunteering statistics and information to the CFA leadership.  We’re looking for an analytical professional who thrives on the opportunity to review and compound data, and we need someone who can provide recommendations based on his or her evaluation of the data collected.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

This is a volunteer position which will require you to work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator from January through August at no more than 8-12 hours per week.  Once familiar with the data, applications, and CFA needs, most work can be done from your home computer.

  • Manage all incoming data on volunteers and volunteer positions needed
  • Review data for inconsistencies or anomalies that could skew analytical results
  • Maintain CFA data sources and conduct routine maintenance as needed to ensure data integrity
  • Streamline data collection and analysis procedures to ensure fast access to metrics
  • Cooordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator about data changes or requirements
  • Generate and review documentation for all database changes or refinements

Examples of Data Analyst responsibilities

  • Use statistical methods to analyze data and generate useful business reports
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to create a prioritized list of reports and the frequency of reporting
  • Identify and recommend new ways to streamline processes relating to managing and using volunteer-related information
  • Use data to create models that depict trends in the volunteer base
  • Work with volunteer team leads to outline their specific data analysis and reporting needs

Qualifications and Skills

  • Prior experience in data management or analysis desired
  • Experience with volunteer-related applications in use by CFA (e.g., Sign Up Genius, Survey Monkey and Microsoft Excel)
  • Ability to work with large data sets
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to extrapolate conclusions from large data sets
  • Strong attention to detail
