KidzArt – FREE Arts and Crafts

Children are invited to explore the visual arts with “artrageously” fun projects led by KidzArt, Howard County’s celebrated advocates of child creativity. Each session will last approximately 45 minutes, and parents must remain with children. Permanent, non-washable materials may be used. Crayons and paper will be available for younger children.

Vertical Dance Workshop with eVenti Verticali

Time: Saturday, June 16, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

This vertical dance workshop aims to help you face and overcome your fear of heights, and also helps you become familiar with the materials and techniques involved in operating at heights, with particular attention to rescue operations. Andrea and Luca Piallini of eVenti Verticali will accompany you step-by-step to knowledge of the equipment and methods (knots, harnesses, ascent devices and rope descent) and to the awareness of the body in suspension.

Plastic Fields

Using plastic bags to make expressive artwork as a community
Time: Friday, June 15, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  |  Saturday, June 16, Noon – 5:00 p.m.  |  Sunday, June 17, Noon – 5:00 p.m.

This activity takes one of our biggest environmental polluters, and turns it into an art medium. Festival guests will fuse plastic bags together to create a variety of colors. These colors will be cut into a collage with a landscape theme. The finished product will be a low relief image that incorporates the work of many people. These creations will be displayed on a 3 dimensional framework creating a collaborative masterpiece for the festival goers to observe and enjoy!

The Writers’ Perch

Birds of a feather … write together. Join HoCoPoLitSo and other local literary organizations for an afternoon of playing with words at LakeFest. Visit the HoCoPoLitSo booth for writing activities, chatting with local authors, learning about local writing resources and browsing literary journals and books. Activities for kids, teens, families and adults. Sponsored by HoCoPoLitSo (the Howard County Poetry and Literature Society), Wilde Readings and the Little Patuxent Review.

Explore the Wonder of ManneqART

Throughout the weekend, meet unique characters wearing ManneqART costumes and learn more about the Sixth Annual ManneqART Sculptural Artworks Competition, which is underway. The Competition features exciting and unique artworks received from artists of all ages and skill levels from around the country. $10,000 in prizes awarded each year. 2018 themes are Love/Fantasy/Metro/Mechanics. A Bra Art Competition is also part of this year’s competition. More information and an application are available at www.manneqart.org.

Create Your Own Reusable Napkin

Time: Saturday, June 16, 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  |  Sunday, June 17, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Do you want to add some color to your lunchbox? Give cloth napkins a try! Come create useful art that the whole family can enjoy! Come tie dye a cloth napkin for free. Local tie-dye company Roll Up N Dye wants to encourage you to cut down on your family’s use of paper products. Onsite registration is required. Napkins are provided but limited in number. Each session will last approximately 25 minutes. Sign-up begins at 12:30pm each day. First group tie dyes at 1pm.

Enjoy the second annual Longest Table. Share a meal and conversation with someone you don’t know, exchange stories about life in Howard County, and discover both common ground and new ideas. The dialogue starts when you come to the table. Those who attend can also take the free shuttle from Howard Community College to LakeFest.
