Aug 1, 2020

SPECIAL THANKS AND RECOGNITION GO TO DAVID PHILLIPS, RETIRING AFTER FOUR YEARS SERVING AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE COLUMBIA FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
Columbia, MD (August 1,2020) The Board of Trustees of the Columbia Festival of the Arts congratulate David Phillips on his retirement effective July 31, 2020.  The Columbia Festival of the Arts community has enjoyed working with Phillips during his four-year tenure. Coming on board in 2016, Phillips played a major role in the stability, well-being and growth of the Festival. David Phillips brought creativity, persistence and humor to his role as the Festival’s director. He kept everyone focused on our mission– “To present a world class celebration of the arts and entertainment that attracts, engages and inspires the broad and diverse community it serves.” Phillips was a pivotal presence at every Festival event from a Jazz concert with Rene Marie or comedy presentation by the World Famous Second City, to orchestrating a champagne brunch fundraiser. He was a leader working with all of our community partners.  His contributions to the successful daily operations with his teamwork and passionate guidance will be sorely missed. From the entire Festival team, we say “Thank you for your dedicated service to the organization. We hope you have a fun, relaxing, and fruitful retirement!” Having learned much from David Phillips and his accomplished management style, the Festival’s current staff members, David Simmons and Robert Neal Marshall will step up to lead the organization.
